As the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly spread around the world, the scientific community desperately searched for therapeutic interventions that could be used to treat and alleviate SARS-CoV-2 infection. Several vaccines were developed quickly (compared with conventional development timelines), tested and manufactured. Two of the earliest effective vaccines were produced using a new approach based on the delivery of mRNA into cells.
