UNS – Students from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta’s Community Service Program (KKN) group 61 organized an Environmental Awareness Socialization for the residents of Malangjiwan Village, Colomadu District, Karanganyar Regency. The program, themed “Efforts to Increase Environmental Awareness Through Education and Active Participation of Malangjiwan Village Community,” took place at the Malangjiwan Village Hall on Friday (26/7/2024).
The main objective of the program was to enhance environmental awareness among the residents of Malangjiwan Village through educational activities, particularly focusing on household waste management.
Environmental awareness is a crucial factor in fostering a healthy and sustainable community. Unfortunately, many residents still lack understanding and proper practices for good environmental management, especially in handling household waste. Therefore, the Team 61 of KKN UNS designed this initiative to educate the Malangjiwan Village community on waste management and environmental conservation.
The event, held in collaboration with the DS3 (Desa Siaga Sehat Sejahtera) cadre, was opened by Indriyastuti, the Chair of DS3 Malangjiwan Village. This was followed by a presentation on Posyandu (integrated health services post) operations by Tri Sulistyowati, the Head of Colomadu 1 Health Center, and Anita, the midwife of Malangjiwan Village. Afterward, the KKN UNS students delivered their material.
“Transforming household waste into valuable products significantly impacts the community’s economic condition. Managing household waste into products also contributes to sustainability for future generations, ensuring cleanliness and health in the community,” Nurul Kartika Sari, a representative from the team 61 of KKN UNS, explained.
The event concluded with a symbolic handover of plants to the Head of Malangjiwan Village and representatives from the DS3 Malangjiwan Village cadre, symbolizing a commitment to environmental conservation. It is hoped that the residents of Malangjiwan Village will apply the waste management knowledge gained in their daily lives, creating a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
The team 61 of KKN UNS students encouraged all residents of Malangjiwan Village to actively participate in every organized activity.
“Together, let’s create a more sustainable, healthy, and prosperous village for the well-being of all,” Nurul added.
