UNS ULTRA Day-1 Presents 50K Marathon

UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta hosted a marathon event in collaboration with the student organization Garba Wira Bhuana UNS and the UNS Running community on the Kentingan campus on Saturday (10/8/2024). The first day of the UNS ULTRA event featured long-distance races, including a 50 km individual marathon and a 50 km relay 2.

Adi Dwi Ismanto, Project Director of UNS ULTRA, explained that the 50 km individual category consisted of ten laps, with each lap covering 5 km. The race had a cut-off time (COT) of 10 hours and a cut-off point (COP) at 5 hours. For the 50 km relay 2 category, the COT was set at 9 hours with a COP at 4,5 hours. Podium placements were awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each category.

UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., attended the event and noted that this year marks the inaugural UNS ULTRA event, held in celebration of the upcoming 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. The event also served as a platform to promote UNS as a green campus to the broader public.

UNS ULTRA is part of the festivities for Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day and a way to promote UNS as a green campus to the community. This event also encourages people to engage in physical exercise, highlighting the importance of sports for maintaining health,” Prof. Hartono said.

Prof. Hartono expressed his hope that the UNS ULTRA event would gain more recognition and become an annual tradition.

“I hope these two days of events run smoothly without any obstacles, and that we achieve our goals,” Prof. Hartono added.

The flag-off for the first day of UNS ULTRA, which featured long-distance races, was conducted by UNS Rector Prof. Hartono, Commander of Korem 074/Warastratama Surakarta, Colonel Inf Ali Akhwan, S.E., and the Head of Academic and Student Affairs Bureau UNS, Iwan Wisnu Anggono, S.S., M.Si.

In a brief interview with uns.ac.id, Colonel Inf Ali Akhwan, S.E., who is also the founder of Solo Berlari, wished success for UNS ULTRA and encouraged the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle through running.

“Through the UNS ULTRA event, we hope to inspire a running culture in Solo and encourage people to start living healthier lives through running. Best wishes for UNS ULTRA, let’s run at UNS,” Colonel Ali said.
