Remember me
Sarbecoviruses (which include SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2) are found in wild animals and can jump to humans, posing a threat to public health. These viruses can enter host cells via their spike (S) glycoprotein, which mediates viral entry by binding its receptor-binding domain (RBD) to the host angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor. Sarbecoviruses are classified into different clades based on their RBD. Members of clade 3 have been found in bats, and the study of their S glycoprotein could help predict spillover risk to humans.
