Evaluative instruments of patients' knowledge about systemic arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus: A scoping review

The construction of evaluative instruments has gained more and more space in Brazil, due to the need for instruments based on our cultural context. Its creation initially requires evaluating the existing instruments. A measurement instrument that contains, in addition to good psychometric quality, clinical relevance, practicality, acceptability and global approach to the evaluation object is considered adequate (Cordeiro, 2021). In nursing, evaluative instruments of knowledge are very relevant, as they make it possible to diagnose the knowledge of patients in an area and analyze their evolution over time, which assumes even greater relevance in the case of evaluative instruments of knowledge about chronic processes, such as the hypertension and diabetes, as the nurse is a relevant professional for the consolidation and expansion of care for people affected by Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) (Draeger, 2022).

The use allows the identification of the most different aspects of the health of the investigated population, directing health actions focused on the problems encountered. The question arises: do the evaluative instruments used by nurses to measure knowledge make it possible to weave effective health actions to reduce health problems in patients affected by hypertension and diabetes? Thus, the objective of this research was to map out the evaluative instruments used by nurses to measure the knowledge of patients affected by Hypertension and Diabetes. This research is relevant for synthesizing the description of these instruments, their strengths and weaknesses, psychometric characteristics and providing scientific evidence for nursing practice with these patients.
