Past, Present, and Future Labor Market Participation Among Patients Admitted to Hospital With Concurrent Substance Use and Mental Health Disorder, and What We Can Learn From It

From the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, Bispebjerg Hospital, København, Denmark (Sell); Department of People and Technology, Universitetsvej 1, Roskilde, Denmark (Lambrecht); Competence Center for Dual Diagnosis, Mental Health Centre Sct Hans, Roskilde, Denmark (Johansen).

The study was supported by the Health Foundation, the REDD-PAC projekt (REsearching Dual diagnosis—Prognosis And Characteristics) grant number 19-A-0042.

The authors report no conflicts of interest.

The study shed light on the long-run developments on the labor market and that the aggregate self-support of patients with a concurrent substance use and mental health disorder is halved in 20 years. Hence, these patients may have unused potential for recovery in terms of contributing to the society.
