Similar to the US, the European Society for Cardiology (ESC) guidelines have long used a 10-year risk score to guide statin therapy in primary prevention. Recently, the risk equation used (Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation [SCORE]) was updated to SCORE2, estimating risk of nonfatal events using more contemporary data.1 The 2021 ESC guidelines on primary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) use SCORE2 to offer updated recommendations for statin therapy.2
