Call for Papers: The Resolution Revolution: Probing Biological Systems from the Nano to the Micro with Mechanical Microscopy

Special Issue Overview

From Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) to Surface Forces Apparatus (SFA), mechanical and probe microscopy techniques have been used to characterize the nano and microscale of a wide range of biological materials. In the last 20 years, advances in these microscopy techniques have allowed for the characterization tissues, cells, and molecules with unprecedented resolution. Multimodal application of these have also enabled researchers to simultaneously image materials and measure their mechanical, chemical, or electrical properties at nanoscale.

This Special Issue, “The Resolution Revolution: Probing Biological Systems from the Nano to the Micro with Mechanical Microscopy”, is soliciting critical reviews on the applications of and advances in probe and mechanical microscopy for the characterization of biological molecules, cells, and tissues. In addition, it is open to original submissions particularly in the area of new mechanical microscopy techniques or novel usage of these techniques for the characterization of biology.

Submission Instructions:

The submission opening date is 1 July 2021 and you are invited to submit your manuscript at any time before the submission deadline 1 October 2021. For any inquiries about the appropriateness of contribution topics, please contact our Guest Editors, Dr. Delphine Dean via finou@clemson.edu and Dr. Lin Han via lh535@drexel.edu

The journal’s submission platform (Editorial Manager®) will be open from 1 July, 2021 for receiving submissions to this Special Issue. Please refer to the Guide for Authors to prepare your manuscript, and select the article type of “VSI: Probe and Mechanical Microscopy” when submitting your manuscript online. Both the Guide for Authors and the submission portal could be found on the Journal Homepage here.
