Introduction of CdSe/ZnS Quantum Dots into a Liquid-Crystal Matrix

Abstract

An important aspect of modern materials science is discussed, specifically, the possibility of combining inorganic nanoparticles and liquid crystals in composites. These systems make it possible to combine the liquid-crystal properties of a matrix with the luminescent properties of quantum dots. A five-component mixture consisting mainly of 4-cyanobiphenyl derivatives has been used as a matrix. Substitution of derivatives of organic acids for ligands formed during the synthesis of quantum dots is demonstrated. Chiralization of a nematic matrix and the possibility of introducing quantum dots into it are demonstrated by the example of two new optically active ligands.
