Adopting active teaching methods significantly enhances students' understanding of nutrition, effectively preparing future nursing professionals.

AbstractBackground

Nutrition is paramount in nursing care, yet many nursing students reveal gaps in this area. This study assessed the efficacy of an advanced clinical nutrition module using active teaching techniques for nursing students.

Methods

Using a pretest post-test design, students participated in a nutrition course centered on critical thinking, augmented by modern technologies and an audience response system (ARS). A subset completed a validated knowledge assessment, while the entire cohort engaged in an ARS-facilitated clinical scenario.

Results

Postcourse, students demonstrated a marked improvement in nutrition understanding (average score: 20.92±2.13 vs 17.89 ± 2.32, p<0.001). Classroom feedback via ARS highlighted a correctness rate of 74.96%.

Conclusions

Active teaching methods profoundly enrich nursing students' nutritional knowledge, adequately preparing future healthcare professionals.
