Pediatric Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction and Concomitant Procedures

Surgical reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is a safe and effective technique to help decrease the risk of recurrent patella dislocations and improve patient outcomes in patella instability patients. When used in children, however, the technique must be modified from the standard adult MPFL procedure to minimize the possibility of injuring the distal femoral growth plate which is very close to the MPFL insertion site. 1,2 This review aims at describing techniques that are used for safely addressing patellofemoral instability in children
