Venous Compression Syndromes in Women

The medical literature has outlined compression syndromes affecting the venous system. These syndromes result from external venous compression by surrounding structures and manifest in various regions, including the iliac veins, thoracic outlet, left renal vein, and less frequently the popliteal vein. While a female predominance is seen in most clinical scenarios of venous compression syndromes, with exceptions for popliteal entrapment and thoracic outlet obstruction, the precise prevalence, diagnosis and treatment outcomes in women remain ambiguously defined.
