Lessons Learned with Venous Stenting: In-flow, Outflow and Beyond

Venous stents are used in the upper and lower limbs and the superior and inferior vena cava. They are used for thrombotic and non-thrombotic stenoses, benign and malignant processes, and acute and chronic occlusions. This article will discuss the history of stents, clinical evaluation of the patient, pre, peri and post-operative imaging, indications for performing venous stenting, the essential equipment, procedural steps, challenges encountered, and potential complications. Finally, we look ahead to future advances in venous stents. We will predominantly discuss the stenting of iliofemoral veins.
