[Media Watch] Navigating the storm of the 1980–90s AIDS epidemic

2021 marks 40 years since the first recorded AIDS case in the USA. In 1981, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention published an article in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, describing patients diagnosed with a rare lung infection, Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, which was later recognised as the first official reporting of what is now referred to as the AIDS epidemic.
