Importance of using the correct statistics

With interest we read the recent paper by Banerjee et al concerning validation of an electrical biosensing technology (regional impedance cardiography) to monitor cardiac output in neonates.1 The authors conclude that this technique is valid for cardiac output measurement and that its use may help clinicians to make better informed haemodynamic management decisions.1

Cardiac output measurement is essential in all circulatory unstable critically ill patients for guiding clinicians in tailoring haemodynamic management to the individual needs, like fluid loading or the use of cardiovascular drugs.
