The Sports Affairs Department at Qatar University (QU) organized a ceremony to mark the conclusion of the Football Referees Course for both levels B and C, held in collaboration with the Qatar Football Association (QFA). The training course was held to train 48 QU students for 2 weeks for each level. During the closing ceremony, students who successfully completed the course were honored in the presence of Dr. Senaid Salem Al-Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at QU, Mr. Abdullah Al-Mulla, Director of Student Activities Department at QU, and Mr. Fahd Thani Al-Zaraa, Director of Development Department at QFA.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Senaid Salem Al-Marri, irector of the Sports Affairs Department at QU, welcomed everyone, congratulated the students who passed the course, and thanked the QFA for its continuous collaboration and support. Dr. Al-Marri stated, “QU always seeks to enrich its students with extracurricular hours and refine their practical skills to achieve the university's vision and graduate a student leader who impacts both themselves and society. Today, you are students of QU, and tomorrow you will be our colleagues and leaders for future generations.”
Mr. Fahd Thani Al-Zaraa, Director of the Development Department at QFA, emphasized that self-effort and ambition are the key factors for excellence in football refereeing. While opportunities are available, global recognition is reserved for the exceptional. Mr. Al-Zaraa pointed out that football and sports are standalone sciences encompassing various supporting fields such as physiology, anatomy, and movement science. Learning these academic disciplines alongside practical training will set the trainee apart from their peers. Mr. Al-Zaraa expressed his wish to see the graduates of this course on the field soon.
In his turn, Mr. Abdullah Al-Mulla expressed his great happiness at the conclusion of this course. Addressing the students, he said, “You are now in the university stage, and courses like these, which were previously only available to retired football players after years of playing, are now accessible to you. Your completion of these courses shapes a brilliant future for you and opens distinguished career opportunities in the future.”
On another note, student Mohammed Al-Fadhli from the College of Education, specializing in physical education, stated, “The course covered all aspects of training, whether it was the innovative selection of suitable exercises for the target age group or the method of determining the desired dimensions for each exercise. On a practical level, the sequence and intensity of the exercises were carefully planned and accurately executed, progressing from the introductory stage to the developmental stage and finally to the realistic stage in an effective manner.”
