The Honors Program, in the Deanship General Studies at Qatar University (QU), organized an Exhibition about Creativity in the Honors Program. This exhibition was a part of the students’ initiative within the Introduction to Honors course, supervised by Prof. Magdy Abita. The exhibition highlighted the close relationship between the Honors Program at QU and the students’ creative abilities. It includes various forms of art, such as drawing, handicrafts, and photography.
Over 150 female students from various academic fields attended the event with 10 faculty members with backgrounds in education, social sciences, humanities, psychology, social work, and Arabic language. Their overwhelming praise for the students' talents underscored the exhibition's success in highlighting these remarkable abilities.
Led by 19 female students, the exhibition was organized into four sections, each managed by dedicated student leaders: the Photography Section supervised by Hind Hadamine, the Drawing Section overseen by Rawan Al-Hajjar, the Handicrafts Section managed by Anoud Al-Thani and Dana Al-Merri, and the Poetry Recitation Section guided by Arwa Mohammed and Noor Al-Iman Fatyan.
In his statement, Dr. Yousri Marzouki, Director of the Honors Program, said, “Creativity among students of the Honors Program at QU is one of the distinguishing characteristics that sets them apart from other students. It is also one of the learning outcomes of the program itself. The program administration appreciates this unique initiative, which will be the first step towards establishing a new culture in the program's courses by providing our students with space for artistic expression that complements their academic excellence and an opportunity to introduce the Honors Program and its unique features to the entire university community.”
On his side, Prof. Magdy Abita, Professor of Social Work and the course instructor, commented on this initiative by saying, “Creativity in the Honors Program Exhibition has succeeded by all measures in showcasing the talents of the Honors students. It has contributed to achieving one of the course's outcomes, which aligns with the goal of this exhibition by promoting engagement in academic and community activities of the program in which it enhances local and global citizenship, cultural diversity, community participation, social responsibility, and leadership development.”
He added, “The exhibition has provided the students with leadership skills, teamwork abilities, and the opportunity to express the Qatari community's heritage. It has also contributed to the development of values such as respect, participation, selflessness, responsibility, and diversity among the participants in a multidisciplinary environment. Furthermore, the exhibition has played a role in promoting a culture of creativity and introducing the important role of the Honors Program at QU. Building on what has been achieved, we will consider future creative events and activities that align with the university's standards and contribute to the learning outcomes of the Honors Program.”
In her response, Hind Hadamine, leader of the student organizers, emphasized, "The Honors Program is not just about academics; it's an enriching journey of self-discovery."
At the end of the event, the participating students reflected on the benefits they gained from this initiative, and they said, “We provided the exhibition visitors with a deeper understanding of the Honors Program, including its goals, outcomes, and role in promoting the Honors culture among university students. The exhibition contributed to increasing our awareness of the importance of teamwork. All the activities of the event were carried out through collaboration among team members, exchanging experiences, engaging in creative discussions, and having dialogues. Moreover, we felt a sense of accomplishment, which was reinforced when we successfully turned the idea of the exhibition into reality.” They continued, “We received praise from university students and professors from various disciplines. We also gained valuable experience in areas such as management, planning, and event organization. Additionally, we developed strategic thinking and problem-solving skills by utilizing our abilities to find solutions and make the most of the available resources in order to achieve the objective. In addition, we enhanced our creative thinking by showcasing the talents of the Honors Program students in various arts.
