Removal of broken airway exchanger in a patient post thyroid surgery

An AEC is utilised for interchanging an “Endotracheal Tube” (ETT) in situations with difficult (see Fig. 1)

intubation and for extubation in patients with difficult airway. The strategies considered are: extubating in a deep plane of anaesthesia, in the conventional manner with the patient awake and extubating with a bridge to a fully extubated state [1]. It reduces complications of airway with compromised laryngeal view at the time of direct laryngoscopy [2]. It is essential to know the complications associated with use of AEC and this case report highlights one.
