Qatar University (QU) proudly announced the success of Charity Week 2023, a remarkable event that captured the essence of unity and philanthropy. This annual global event, aiming to unite the Ummah and support orphans and needy children, unfolded vibrantly. The event, organized by QU in cooperation with the Qatar Education Above All Foundation, along with various student clubs like Wmnahyaha, Meshkat, Chess, Astronomy, and the South Korean Club, aimed to raise funds and awareness for charitable causes.
The event, which spanned from 22 October to 2 November, highlighted an array of activities orchestrated by collaborations between various clubs at QU, including engaging booths, painting sessions, sports tournaments, and partnerships with businesses committed to contributing a portion of their sales to charity.
In turn, Mr. Omar Al-Emadi, student organization advisor, stated, “We are proud of the student efforts of Sanabel Club and the participating clubs at QU in the Charity Week 2023 event for their distinguished efforts. The event demonstrated the students’ capabilities and abilities in spreading awareness and educating the student community about charitable work in a distinctive and diverse manner through various participations that suit all categories of the public.”
He added, “Through these initiatives, the Student Activities Department, represented by the Student Clubs and Organizations section, continues to ensure that it helps student organizations and clubs establish and participate in charitable initiatives to spread the value of charitable work and raise awareness of its importance in society, which is in the interest of students and society.”
Areeba Faisal, Charity Week Events Officer, remarked, “I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to be this year's Charity Week representative, an experience that has boosted my confidence and equipped me with invaluable skills. The Sanabel board worked together as a team to bring our vision to life with incredible support from our advisor, Mr. Omar Al-Emadi, as well as our dedicated volunteers. The success of Charity Week was not just measured in the funds raised but also in the profound impact we had from uniting the students and a sense of fulfillment derived from making a difference.” She continued, “I am extremely thankful to all who participated, supported, and contributed to the success of Charity Week. It was a testament to the remarkable potential that occurs when individuals rally together for a common cause.”
Amidst the diverse range of activities, the football tournament witnessed Ali Sherif Tawfik emerge as the top goal scorer, expressing gratitude for the community's support and enthusiasm for the cause. “I just want to say that I am very happy to be in this Charity Week event at QU. We played a football match, had a big tournament, and won first place. I want to thank everyone behind the scenes, and I am so happy to see everyone donating for education above all charity. Thank you for hosting, and I hope to see you next year.”
The collective efforts of QU students and clubs led to a staggering 44,900 QAR raised this year, marking it as one of the highest among participating institutes. Notably, the CW 2023 Qatar total reached 388,992 QAR, contributing significantly to the international 12.4 million QAR and successfully fulfilling the 4.4 million QR pledge to Gaza. Additionally, the university's booth at the inter-university event was honored with the prestigious Buzz Worthy Booth Award, recognizing innovation and engagement.
Charity Week 2023 transcended mere fundraising; it became a platform for fostering a culture of empathy and community support among QU students. The engagement of diverse clubs and the enthusiastic participation from students underscored the university's commitment to social responsibility.
