Acute pancreatitis as a rare complication of leptospirosis: A case report and literature review

Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease that occurs worldwide, with an increased incidence in tropical and subtropical regions [1]. The source of human infection is usually direct or indirect contact with the urine of infected animals, such as rodents. Leptospirosis has been reported in urban centers, such as Baltimore and Tokyo, and some urban rats are known to be reservoir animals for Leptospira spp [2,3]. Leptospirosis may become more common in urban areas owing to climate change and poor sanitation associated with urban population concentrations. Leptospirosis is known to cause various systemic complications, but in rare cases, pancreatitis may occur. Herein, we present a case of acute pancreatitis associated with leptospirosis.
